Student and Community Recap: January 2024

January marked the beginning of the second semester, and as we slowly get back into the swing of things, we’ve taken the opportunity to spend tons of time together. Desperate to see each other again after the long winter break, the first years went to dinner at Cantina while the second years had a Crumbl cookie night.

It was also a big month for movies, with both the first year and second years seeing Mean Girls and the second years also watching Anyone But You.

Some of our first years volunteered with the Arc of South Carolina as part of the MLK Day of Service program hosted by the University of South Carolina’s Leadership and Service Center. The Arc of South Carolina is an organization committed to providing support for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. For the MLK Day of Service they coordinated a PB&J making contest and the resulting sandwiches were donated to organizations throughout Columbia to help address food insecurity. Over the course of the morning, volunteers made a total of 1,694 sandwiches!

While volunteering at the PB&J making contest, our first years were given a mini table tennis set, so one afternoon during a break in between classes, they put it together and had a little tournament. Even our assistant director, Jessica, joined in!

Also, we want to wish a Happy Birthday to Aubrey, one of our second years! She and the rest of her cohort celebrated with dinner, cake, and a game night.

Here at 2 Med, our January has been packed with all kinds of activities. From clinic days to exercise classes, dinners together and staying in for movie nights, we’ve definitely been trying to make up for lost time!
